Soft tissue therapy & sports massage in Birmingham – for complex, multi-area or long-standing issues

Functional Body Clinic at Edgbaston Quaker Meeting House

Service Description

Our 90-minute soft tissue therapy treatment in Birmingham is designed for clients with complex, long-standing or multi-area issues that need more time and a thorough, structured approach. This extended session gives us the space to carry out a full clinical assessment before any hands-on treatment begins, ensuring that every technique used is targeted, evidence-based and appropriate for your individual needs. What to Expect During Your 90-Minute Session Your appointment begins with a detailed consultation covering your current symptoms, injury history, lifestyle factors and health background. From there, we conduct a full postural assessment, examining how you stand, move and hold tension through your body. Poor posture — whether from desk work, sport, repetitive strain or old injuries — is frequently an underlying driver of pain and dysfunction. By identifying postural imbalances early, we can address root causes rather than just symptoms. We then carry out a range of orthopaedic and movement tests to assess joint range of motion, muscle length, strength and neurological function. These tests help us pinpoint the structures involved — whether that is a muscle, tendon, ligament, nerve or joint — and guide the most effective treatment approach. Common tests include resisted muscle testing, passive and active range of motion assessments, special orthopaedic tests for the shoulder, hip, knee, spine and other regions, as well as functional movement screening where relevant. With a clear clinical picture established, we move into hands-on treatment. This typically includes a combination of deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques and sports massage, tailored to your specific presentation. The 90-minute duration allows us to work across multiple body regions in a single session — for example, addressing both the lower back and hips, or the neck, shoulders and upper back together. Who Is This Treatment Ideal For? This session is particularly well suited to clients who have been dealing with chronic pain, recurring injuries or persistent tension that hasn't resolved with shorter treatments. It is also ideal for athletes and active individuals who require thorough recovery and maintenance work across multiple muscle groups, as well as anyone returning from injury who needs a structured reassessment and progressive treatment plan.
